CampingCamping is at the heart of the Scout program. One of the 8 methods of scouting is outdoors program to include Camping. Troops which have an active outdoor/camping program, have higher retention rates, and happier scouts than units that do not. Lets do all we can to incorporate camping into our programs.
NATIONAL CAMPING AWARD
The National Camping Award is designed to recognize troops, teams and posts who go camping during the year. Your unit may qualify in two categories as you begin to expand your camping program: yearly and cumulative.
Requirements:
1) At least 50 percent of your unit must attend resident long term camp.
2) On other campouts, at least 33 percent of your Scouts must be in attendance for each twenty-four hour period to count as a camper day to qualify for the troop ribbons.
A record should be kept by your unit of the number of days camped each year. The Camping Log available at the Scout Store or Mobile Trading Post can be used to record your progress. The twelve month period may cover a calendar year, a charter year or any other twelve-month period predetermined by your unit. Either your unit commissioner or district camping chair may approve the application.
