You may have heard that the Desert Pacific Council of the Boy Scouts of
America is transitioning their Eagle Boards of Review back to the districts.
With the intent of starting district Eagle Boards of Review in January 2005, the
Santa Margarita District is organizing a cadre of distinguished citizens of the
communities we serve to be members of our Boards of Review.
As Chair of the District Eagle Board of Review, I hope you will consider
serving as one of the new members. We plan to have enough members so that
we can rotate the Board members so they service once every two or three months.
The Boards will be held for two to three hours, depending on number of Eagle
candidates for any given month.
The Board of Review is a time to determine whether or not the candidate has
met all requirements for the rank, but it is not a retest of the skills he
acquired during his scouting career. But in addition, it provides an
opportunity for the Scout to discuss his Scouting experiences, to expound how he
has lived up to the high ideals of Scouting (living up to the Oath and Law)
while demonstrating his leadership, and to describe his ambitions and goals.
It also gives the Board members an opportunity to encourage and support our
country's future leaders toward his goal.
It is our goal to have our Eagle Board of Review's be a happy, memorable
experience. If possible we will try to match the backgrounds of the Board
members with interests of the candidates.
